Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital held "Unmasking Brain Injury" event

Van Matre HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital held the Unmasking Brain Injury event in observance of Brain Injury Awareness Month to allow brain injury survivors a chance to tell their stories through art. Current and former patients created masks that depicted their personal stories of brain injury for others to see. “All sorts of emotions come with any type of injury,” says Alyssa Jensen, a speech-language pathologist at Van Matre HealthSouth. “I think a lot of the trends [in the mask designs] were acknowledging who they were before and that they’re still that person now just changed in some ways.”
